Ernesford was designated as a Specialist Science College in September 2005.
In June 2010 we were successfully re-designated and will retain our status for another 3 years. The
Specialist departments within the school are Science and Maths. Both departments undertake extensive
outreach work in other departments, partner Primary, Secondary and Special Schools as well as the

Science College Successes
Awarded Healthy schools status in 2010
In March 2010 we achieved National Healthy School status. This means that we have met tough criteria
on Healthy Eating, Emotional Health and Well-being, PHSE and Physical activity. At Ernesford we
believe that it is important for young people to develop good, Healthy Lifestyle habits at a young age.
We will continue to work with the school council, the kitchen staff, Governors and parents as well as
pupils and staff to ensure that our pupils know how to keep themselves active and Healthy.
Maths GCSE results hit 60% A* to C in 2010
25 A and A* grades achieved in Science GCSE subjects in 2010
Best GCSE results ever and best A level results in 5 years. Third highest average
point score in the City for A level.
Working towards Eco School Status
With the help of the school council and our partner school in India we are working towards Eco
school status. We will be focussing on reducing energy use and litter as well as developing our
new horticulture site
Creating an outside learning Space
With help from our partners at e-on we have built a polytunnel to grow crops and thanks to the
Woodland Trust we have planted a Hedge and Fruit trees. Year 7 and BTec Art and Design are
working on ‘discovery boards’ to display the History of our ancient moated site.
